Choosing Flowers for a Funeral
Funeral flowers are something that shows the respect that was felt for the deceased, therefore there should be a lot of thought that goes into these flowers. Just choosing a random flower is not going to work since sending bright yellow roses, though they may have been the favorite of the deceased, is not exactly appropriate. More times than not, the funeral is going to be organized around a color, which makes it easier for those that are wanting to send flowers to do so and send those colors that are going to compliment, not stand out like a sore thumb.
But what kind of flowers should people send to the funeral home? This is a common question and the best answer is to talk to the local florist. More than likely they can steer the consumer into the right direction because they have made the other arrangements that have been ordered for the deceased, thus know what people are going with. However, the most common flowers that are sent to funerals are carnations in an arrangement of baby's breath and greenery. There are also those that send lilies with greenery arrangements. Other people choose to send a mixed arrangement such as those on a wreath that contain lilies, carnations and perhaps tulips.
When talking about the floral arrangements that are found, the person could be talking about standing arrangements that are basically floral wreaths that are stood up near the caskets. Other people prefer to send glass vases that hold the arrangement, however, in doing this the arrangement may not be noticed by everyone since it may sit out in the waiting area of the funeral home since it is so breakable. There are casket flowers that are put around the casket of the deceased, however, this is usually the floral arrangements that those close to the family or the family themselves pick out while they are making preparations for the deceased funeral. A majority of these before mentioned arrangements are going to go to the burial site with the casket. However, some of these will be taken home by loved ones. Which means that those who would rather send a small collection of flowers can do so and they will be sent home with a loved one of the deceased. There are also arrangements that are arranged in baskets that adorn the ground around the casket during the viewing part of the funeral. These are usually taken home by the loved ones of the deceased.
When sending flowers many people wonder when is the appropriate time. Most flowers are ordered a few days before the funeral and the florist will deliver them all to the funeral home. However, for those that would rather not do this, flowers delivered to the home of loved ones of the deceased is a way to show your sympathy and condolences for their loss. And these can even be given after the funeral has passed.
